It is wrong to borrow and not repay. I can tell you it’s not wrong, but if your conscience tells you it is wrong then nothing can change that and you can’t avoid guilt by pretending something isn’t what it is.
The question is what do you do when you can’t repay everyone at the same time in the amounts they want? Bankruptcy is an orderly legal method of getting all your creditors to the table and you keep certain things and income and your creditors get the rest. This fulfills your legal duty, but not your moral duty.
So how do you fulfill your moral duty? The first, but often neglected, practice of confession is the place to start; all offenses are primarily and ultimately to the Creator who gave you life in the first place. This restores you to His grace. You can then ask Him to guide you in living with the consequences of what you did wrong to get to the point where you could not repay.
In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
You can be forgiven monetary debt in this life, but what about your debt to sin in the life to come. Are you ready for that? Your Advocate is Jesus.
